Tough Loss for New Mexico, 4-14

by Andres Trujillo

El Paso, TX (February 8, 2019) – It was a tough loss on the road as the New Mexico Runners fall to the Cuervos by a score of 4-14. This makes it the 3rd straight loss against Juarez with one more to play in a couple weeks at home on March 2nd.

The Runners couldn't get the momentum started as the Cuervos pushed to score 2 in the first quarter. The defense continued to struggle to find a rhythm that would be effective.

New Mexico wouldn't score in the second quarter until Jaime Rodriguez took it to the house at 9:51 on the clock. The Cuervos would answer back to close out the first half 1-5.

The third quarter wasn't fairing well for the Runners as they continued to try to find a defensive stand. Juarez put up 5 goals to outscore the Runners' 2 goals made by Rodriguez and Luis Fernando Martinez.

As the fourth quarter played out, there were 4 unanswered goals by the Cuervos. New Mexico wouldn't score again until Matute chipped in a goal off the post with 3:00 minutes remaining in the game.

The Cuervos would add salt to the wound as they scored one more with 1:45 left.

The Runners drop their 3rd straight against the Cuervos by a final score of 4-14. New Mexico is 1-5 on the season.

It wasn't the result the Runners were looking for, but the focus is now back at home as they face the Colorado Rumble on Sunday February 10th at 3 pm.
