Runners Head to Colorado for Final Road Game of Season

by Andres Trujillo

(March 11, 2022) Colorado Springs, CO - This weekend's road game will be third time the New Mexico Runners will have played the Colorado Inferno this season. New Mexico heads to Colorado Springs on Saturday March 12th, 2022 for their final road game of the third season. Kick off is at 7:00 PM MT as the Runners look to capture their 3rd win this season.

The New Mexico Runners are currently 2-8 on the season with just 2 more games to go. This Saturday's matchup in Colorado Springs will be an interesting one, especially with several key Runners players out with season ending injuries. #22 Sergio Fuentes sustained a fractured ankle injury on his right ankle during training a couple weeks ago. Another hit to the New Mexico squad is the season ending injury for #11 team captain Froilan Ramirez who fractured his left ankle last week.

Head Coach Steve Famiglietta has mentioned how these two injuries have really been tough on the team especially since Ramirez and Fuentes are both lead scorers for the Runners. "Things happen and it can definitely be frustrating when they happen. These two guys have made a tremendous impact for the team this season and we can't wait to have them back on the field next season," says Famiglietta.

The 3rd season has been tough for the Runners since they returned to the field after a long hiatus due to the COVID pandemic.

"To try to find that team chemistry again has been nothing short of a challenge this season," says team owner Andres Trujillo. "We have a very talented team this year, getting back into a rhythm isn't something that can be accomplished overnight."

Saturday night's game will have to showcase the best play for those stepping up to fill the voids including #2 Vince Aragon, #14 Luis Martinez, and #21 Mehrshad Ahmadi. Another player that has the potential to be the "X' factor for the team this weekend is #10 Jobany Villalba who started the season very strong, but seemed to have lost his way mid season.

Last meet up between these two teams was in Colorado back on February 13th and resulted in a loss. Both the Runners and Inferno have one game a piece in the series. The Inferno are 1-8 on the season and the Runners have their sights to give them another loss.
