Runners Host 1st Kids Camp
Rio Rancho, N.M. (July 30, 2019) – For the first time in the organization’s history, the New Mexico Runners have put together an arena soccer camp in partnership with the City of Rio Rancho Parks and Recreation Department as well as the Santa Ana Star Center which is the team’s home arena.
The two day camp wrapped up the first day with almost 100 kids participating and will resume on Wednesday July 31st, 2019 from 10 AM – 3 PM.
This camp wasn’t open to the public, but rather reserved for kids registered with a summer recreation program with the City of Rio Rancho Parks and Recreation Department. Campers got a goody bag filled with camp t-shirts, key chains, and other swag.
Campers worked on soccer drills with Runners players as well as their Head Coach and professional soccer Hall of Famer Steve Famiglietta. The chance to work with these athletes gave the kids a glimpse of what it’s like to play on the same field as the players and get to know them better.
“With a camp like this, I feel that these kids are getting a chance to know who their hometown team is as well as who the players are.” Says Head Coach Steve Famiglietta.
Participants interacted with several of the Runners players including Goal Keepers Casey Gasson and Dominic Valenzuela, Forwards Mario Matute and Korbin Krupiak, Midfielders Seth Gordon and Nick Famiglietta, Defender James Urbany. They were also surprised with the team’s mascot “Rio” the Roadrunner who took pictures and interacted with the campers.
The two day camp is a community event initiative that has continued to bridge a solid partnership with the New Mexico Runners, City of Rio Rancho Parks and Rec, and the Santa Ana Star Center.
The final day of the camp will run on Wednesday July 31, 2019 from 10 AM – 3 PM at the Santa Ana Star Center (located at 3001 Civic Center Circle NE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124) and all media outlets are invited to attend and take a look at how the New Mexico Runners organization is interacting with the community.
