Runners Downed in Colorado

Colorado Springs, CO (February 19, 2023) - The New Mexico Runners took a road trip to the North to take on the Colorado Inferno for the second time this season on Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately things didn't pan out in favor of the Runners. New Mexico ended up dropping their 3rd road game in a row by a score of 8-13.

The match started with Inferno scoring first in two minutes. A defensive first quarter ensued and another goal by Colorado would find the back of the net at around the eighth minute mark. New Mexico's Ahmadi would keep the Inferno in check by scoring on a back heel goal with an assist from Vince Aragon. Unfortunately a slip in the line transition gave the Inferno the opportunity to score two more to end the quarter with the 1-4 lead over the Runners.

Quarter two showed an equal strength between both teams as they both scored 4 goals a piece. Colorado scored first within 30 seconds of the 2nd, but it wasn't long until New Mexico's Aragon found the back of the net solo. Ahmadi would go on to score just three minutes later on a lob. Aragon's teamwork with Ahmadi gave the Runners two more to close out the first half trailing 5-8.

After the halftime break, another early goal by Colorado's Perez extended the Inferno lead. There really wasn't much offensive action on the field and both defenses played to their strengths. Ahmadi would find a clear lane with Ramirez on the assist. Colorado would grab another to close our quarter 3 by a score of 6-10.

In the final quarter, the Runners pressed hard to score goals as Terry Zamora was placed in the goalie box as New Mexico's 6th attacker. There seemed to be some offensive push as Josh Garcia scored off a quick assist from Aragon. Aragon would then find a corner opening for a hat trick. Inferno would out pace New Mexico by scoring 3 goals in the fourth to end the match defeating New Mexico 8-13.

The Runners head back home for their next matchup on Saturday February 25th, 2023 at the Rio Rancho Events Center where they will face the Wichita Wings for Faith & Family Night.
