Runners Complete Inaugural Season

by NM Runners Staff

Rio Rancho, NM (March 17, 2019) - The New Mexico Runners of the Major Arena Soccer League 2 have officially and historically completed their inaugural season.

Since the announcement of the team back on June 20th, 2018, the idea that a team like this would work was a far fetched one for many in the community. With teams coming and going from arena football to ice hockey, there was much doubt of whether or not Owner Andres Trujillo and his organization would see the end of at least one season.

Those doubts are now put to rest as the New Mexico Runners arena soccer organization has officially completed one full season.

The Runners ended their season with an overtime loss to the Colorado Rumble in Denver by a score of 9-10 on March 16th. It was an exciting game as New Mexico started strong in the 1st half. A struggle in the 3rd quarter gave the Rumble a chance to comeback and they capitalized on that opportunity by tying things up at 9 at the end of regulation. Colorado would go on to score the final goal in overtime, but the game was exciting and close for all fans watching.

Even though New Mexico lost their final game, they still placed 3rd in the Mountain Division with a season record of 4-8. This was an effort applauded by many in the league especially for a first year team to accomplish what the Runners have done this season.

League leaders shine with the Runners as Forward #24 Jaime "Chiva" Rodriguez finished with top honors as he led the league in points (52), goals scored (41), as well as power play goals (6).

Head Coach Steve Famiglietta expressed his feelings this season stating, "Working with the New Mexico Runners has been a highlight in my soccer career! Not in just playing or coaching, but in my overall soccer career this has been the most fun I've had and we are looking forward to next season."

The Major Arena Soccer League is a brand new concept to New Mexico and is gaining momentum and popularity despite its differences with traditional soccer. The arena soccer concept is focused on high scoring, fast paced action, and extremely fun for the casual as well as hard core soccer fan.

"We are all about entertainment and our community has started to embrace their hometown sports team that is so much fun and never boring! I am so proud of our players, staff and coaches for a phenomenal season." Says Owner and President Andres Trujillo.

Season 2 is officially is in the sights of the Runners administration with season tickets now on sale with a limited sale price of $63 for each season ticket and can be purchased by calling 505-663-7786. A family run business is how this organization has started and will continue to be operated in this manner which truly resonates with the community and reflects the fact that the New Mexico Runners organization is New Mexico's only 100% born, raised, family owned and operated sports team in the state.

It all started with one idea by Andres Trujillo looking to make the community a better place. It has blossomed into something special which shows this is a real local success story many folks and community leaders are now starting to get behind.

The New Mexico Runners organization would like to formally thank all the season ticket holders as well as fans for their support and believing in the vision and foundation built that has given the community a shining beacon of positivity! A gigantic thank you goes out to sponsors and businesses who helped make the New Mexico Runners organization a success and are looking forward to working together again in season 2!
