New Mexico Faces Inferno in Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs, CO (February 18, 2023) – The New Mexico Runners are set to begin the second half of the regular season on Sunday February 19th at 2 PM Mountain Time in Colorado Springs. New Mexico will face the Colorado Inferno for the second time this season with the goal to sweep them in one season

The Runners defeated the Inferno at home back on January 21st, by a score of 16-7. Currently the Runners sit at a record of 3-3 heading into Sunday. Colorado is still winless on the season with a record of 0-5. The Runners have made strides to equalize the lifetime matchup record and look to do so Sunday. As it stands, New Mexico has won 4 against the Inferno since 2018 whereas Colorado has 5 on the Runners.

Colorado comes at a very shaky time with the addition of a new head coach to their staff. New Mexico looks to make an example of how far they've come since the franchise's humble beginnings to what they are able to do on the field today.

The last two losses for New Mexico were due to several personnel issues including injuries that plagued the Runners in Wichita, to the one-game suspension due to accumulation of time penalties of defensive juggernaut  Colton Oord in the previous loss to the Kansas Bandits on February 11th.

The Runners are feeling good heading into this road trip citing the return of Oord and the new addition of Michael Stephens to help balance out the field. Stephens made his MASL2 debut in the February 11th game at the Rio Rancho Events Center.

It'll be interesting to see the changes in field play for Colorado with their new gaffer. Last match against the Inferno, New Mexico played a structured game which controlled the entire possessional table. Expect high flying action as these two teams have built a rivalry that you can't stop watching. Also in the mix that is noteworthy are the leading team scorers Ahmadi, Aragon, Ramirez, and Zamora who collectively have 43 goals on the season. The assist game will be key for the Runners to ensure lanes are open to shoot as they head into Sunday.

New Mexico will return home on Saturday February 25th, 2023 for Faith & Family Night at the Rio Rancho Events Center.
