On The Road: Runners Face Wings in Wichita

RUNNERS Face Wings for the First Time in 2022-23 Season

Wichita, KS (February 4, 2023) – New Mexico is on their second road trip in a row as they head down to Wichita, Kansas to take on the Wings for the first time this season. The Runners who are 3-1 on the season will look to get a leg up on Wichita who is 3-2.

The Runners are looking to bounce back from a tough loss in Amarillo back on January 29th. 

Both of Wichita's losses were handed to them by the Amarillo Bombers this season while New Mexico splits with Amarillo at one a piece.

The match up between both teams has become somewhat of a classic rivalry. The last time the Runners faced the Wings in Wichita was on January 15th, 2022 where the shorthanded New Mexico outlasted Wichita 7-6. Injuries from the Amarillo road trip has proven to take it's toll on New Mexico with many sitting this week out to recover.

Major injuries for the Runners include Nick Famiglietta who tore his ACL in a fire fueled matchup against the Bombers. Goalkeeper Nate Yeager is also on the mend with an ankle sprain. Another key player missing this trip is Jaxn Rogers who is expecting a baby any moment now as his wife is starting her delivery process. Midfielder Luis Martinez continues to rehab his ankle sprain injury sustained in the January 7th game.

Even though the travel roster is short for this road trip, the Runners traditionally do well shorthanded. The squad has a innate ability to pick up any slack due to the shortage.

Star scorer Mehrshad Ahmadi continues to lead the league in goals scored with 18 in 4 games and has pulled away from the next leading scorer who has 13. Expect a high flying performance by Vince Aragon who has score in every single game this season as well as Terry Zamora as both Runners have scored in the last 2 games.

New Mexico is on the road Saturday February 4th in Wichita. The Runners return home to the Rio Rancho Events Center on Saturday February 11th, 2023 for Educators Appreciation Night.
