GAME PREVIEW: NM Hosts Falls Town on Saturday at Santa Ana Star Center

by Andres Trujillo

Rio Rancho, NM (December 20, 2019) – The New Mexico Runners (2-1) hosts the Falls Town Flyers (1-1) at the Santa Ana Star Center on Saturday December 21st, 2019. This will be the first time the Runners will face the league newcomer Flyers.

New Mexico will be coming off a 2-game road trip which left them at a split of one win against the Colorado Rumble and a loss against the Colorado Inferno.

This matchup will showcase the type of arena soccer that will be fast and furious with a high score to be expected.

League Leaders: Once again Midfielder Luis Fernando Martinez leads the league in total number of goals scored with 10. Martinez put on a clinic in Denver as he shut down the Rumble by scoring 6 goals in just one game. Right behind Martinez is last season’s MVP Jaime “Chiva” Rodriguez who has 6 total goals on the season. Saturday will be one for the record books for these two league leaders.

Defender Domination: Defenders aren’t just for defending, they score too. Defender Seth Gordon brought his tux last Saturday against the Rumble with his hat trick 3-goal performance. Gordon has scored in every single game this season and has 5 goals to his name. Look out for him making his moves to protect the home goal to put the ball in the net.

What To Watch For: The Runners have a win in mind for this weekend. If they control the pace of play, they will land a 3-1 record to move into one of the top spots in the league. A very green Falls Town team gives an edge with the now experienced Runners in a Saturday night dogfight.

The New Mexico Runners face the Falls Town Flyers on Saturday December 21st at the Santa Ana Star Center where doors open at 4 PM with a 5 PM MT kick off.
