New Mexico Runners Host Omaha In 2nd Home Game of Season

Rio Rancho, NM (January 7, 2022) – The New Mexico Runners will play host to the Omaha Kings in their 2nd home game of their 3rd season at the Rio Rancho Events Center on Saturday January 8th, 2022. Saturday’s game is themed “Superheroes & Princesses” Night with the Runners.

This will be the third time the Runners will meet up with Omaha as they fell short in a double header on the road against the Kings back in December. New Mexico currently carries a 0-4 record, but look to change the tide on Saturday.

“When you look at where we started this season and where we are at now, we’ve come a long way.” Says Head Coach Steve Famiglietta. “Watch the game and not the score. You’ll see how our guys have started to rebuild the chemistry we had from two years ago.”

New Mexico had a rough one last weekend when they played Amarillo in a home and away double header. The Runners managed to score 14 goals in Amarillo in a matchup played this past Sunday, but were unable to best the Bombers due to a few mistakes made earlier in the game.

Saturday’s matchup against Omaha is expected to be a high flying, fast, and high scoring game. The Kings are 2-1 on the season with a loss against Wichita last week. New Mexico has made the adjustments and we are now looking at a gelled squad heading into the weekend. 

Players like New Mexico’s #22 Sergio Fuentes are looking to keep the momentum going after he scored 5 goals in Amarillo. Fuentes currently has 8 goals and 2 assists on the season. #6 Jacob Gandarilla has 1 goal and 4 assists on the season and is one player to watch on Saturday. #11 team captain Froilan Ramirez has been an asset this season as he currently has 5 goals and 1 assist. Newcomer #10 Jobany Villalba isn't far behind with 4 goals and 1 assist on the season.

The January 8th game is themed “Superheroes and Princesses” Night. Fans are encouraged to dress their kids up in their favorite superhero and princess costumes. If kids show up dressed in their costumes, their kids get in FREE with a paid adult ticket. The 1966 fully functional TV show Batmobile will be on site for fans to see and take photos along with the princesses of Starlit Moments. 

The Runners will kick off their 2nd home game of the 3rd season on Saturday January 8th, 2022 with a 5:05 PM kick-off at Rio Rancho Events Center (3001 Civic Center Circle Dr. NW, Rio Rancho, NM 87144).
