New Mexico Fights on the Road, Falls Short 3-8
Wichita Falls, TX (March 7, 2020) – The New Mexico Runners gave Falls Town a tough run for their money on Saturday night, but fall short 3-8 in Wichita Falls, Texas.
The Runners are now 4-7 on the season, but it was an exciting game to say the least as New Mexico fought hard with a short roster. The short roster was due to sustained injuries from players in previous games.
The game pace was controlled by New Mexico from the beginning as the defense shut down one of Falls Town’s star players Josh Peloquin. The only two goals scored in the half we by the Flyers and the Runners held strong stopping their momentum.
The second half was a slow start for New Mexico, but was kick started by Seth Gordon scoring from about 15 yards out with the assist from Mario Matute in the 3rdquarter with 8:13 on the clock. The quarter would end with 5 goals scored by the Flyers.
The 4th quarter was had more Runners action as Gordon lasered a goal from the side to score his second of the night. Midfielder Luis Fernando Martinez would follow up with a chip in with 3:12 remaining in the game. It would end with the Flyers advantage by a score of 3-8.
A great defensive showing was on display for New Mexico as Goalkeeper Casey Gasson made 13 incredible saves.
The showing for tonight’s roster was a solid entertaining game and “I am proud of how hard these guys played, especially because of our smaller roster.” Stated Head Coach Steve Famiglietta.
