Home Season Finale on Saturday

by Andres Trujillo

Rio Rancho, NM (March 1, 2019) – On Saturday night, the New Mexico Runners (3-5) will play their last regular season home game of their inaugural season as they take on the Ciudad Juarez Cuervos (8-1) at the Santa Ana Star Center at 5:05 PM MT.

Last week, the Runners rescheduled their road game against the Colorado Rumble due to bad weather and road conditions. That game will be made up in Denver on Saturday March 16th, 2019.

As the Runners look to Saturday's game against Juarez, there is still hope for a post season berth. The stars will have to align with New Mexico winning the remainder of their 4 games as well as the 2nd place Colorado Inferno dropping their next two, which one of the games is against the Runners.

The Mountain Division is still up in the air as teams are looking to see if New Mexico will make magic happen.

This will be the fourth time New Mexico will face the Cuervos as they fell short in the previous three games. The last meet up against Juarez at home was a close game as the Runners lost by a score of 9-11.

New Mexico has maintained their 3rd place status in the division going into the weekend and look to inch closer to second.

This weekend will showcase high flying and laser soccer balls that will keep fans on the edge of their seats. The fast paced offense is led by Forward Jaime "Chiva" Rodriguez who has 22 goals on the season with 6 assists and 3.5 points per game average.

The Runners will have to push things to the limit and take advantage of elevation as the Cuervos struggled in the last meet up in Rio Rancho. Playing smart and communication is key in the quest to defeat Juarez.

Head Coach Steve Famiglietta will be physically absent from Saturday's game as he will be coaching via FaceTime since he will be out of town due to a previous commitment set since before he was hired to the Runners.

"Even though I won't be there in person, I know my coaching staff will do what they need to do to get the job done." Says Head Coach Steve Famiglietta.

The Runners are ready to put on a show at the Santa Ana Star Center for their regular season home finale on Saturday March 2, 2019 with kick-off at 5:05 pm and doors opening at 4 pm. Tickets can be purchased online here, and can also be purchased at the door starting at $10.
