Runners to Face Flyers in Wichita Falls, TX

Wichita Falls, TX (March 7, 2020) – New Mexico (4-6) is making their first road trip in almost two months to take on the Falls Town Flyers (2-8) in Wichita Falls, Texas at the Kay Yeager Coliseum on Saturday afternoon at 4 PM mountain time.

This will be the second time the Runners will face the Flyers this season. The first meet up was at home back on December 21st, 2019 where New Mexico defeated the Flyers 14-9. Forward Froilan Ramirez led the charge against the Flyers, but unfortunately has had a season ending injury from the January 12th game against the Wings. Goalkeeper Casey Gasson had a good showing against Falls Town saving 64% of the shots taken on him.

Falls Town has played 10 games to date with only four games remaining in their season and they are on a 3 game losing streak going into this meet up with New Mexico. Both teams are out of playoff contention, but we will see a high paced showing from both sides of the ball.

The Runners have struggled to get back on the win track as they have dropped their last 4 game in a row. This doesn’t mean the season is over. With 4 more games to go in season 2, New Mexico looks to finish strong with veterans Gasson, Martinez, Matute and Defender Seth Gordon leading the way.

Not In Timeout: A major bright spot for New Mexico in tonight’s matchup is that Midfielder/Defender Mario Matute will be suiting up after his one game suspension due to a controversial red card that many say shouldn’t have been given. Matute didn’t play against the Wings last Sunday, but he’s ready to put the pedal to the metal tonight against the Flyers.

Departing the Runway: There have been a few surprises for the Runners as they hit the tail end of their season. Captain and Defender Patrick Pacheco’s season looks to have come to an end due to a broken toe sustained a few weeks back. A couple of players have left the team due to other opportunities including Forward Miguel Avila who returned to Las Vegas and last year’s MVP Jaime Rodriguez. Rodriguez cited his departure is due to “wanting to be with family especially his newborn baby who was born back in December.”

Showtime: A couple new faces will be added to the starting line including Forwards Ricardo Orozco and Walter Saucedo. Both have been practicing all season long with no real game time until now. Orozco and Saucedo have worked hard all season long and will get their chance to shine against Wichita Falls.

The New Mexico Runners take on the Falls Town Flyers on the road in Wichita Falls, Texas Saturday March 7th with a 4 PM MT kick off. Broadcast will be available online and will be streamed on the Falls Town Facebook page. New Mexico’s next home game will be on Saturday March 21st, 2020 at the Santa Ana Star Center at 5 PM.
