GAME PREVIEW: Runners vs Rumble

by Andres Trujillo

Rio Rancho, NM (January 3, 2020) – The New Mexico Runners (3-2) return home on Saturday January 4th to play host to the Colorado Rumble FC (0-4) at the Santa Ana Star Center in the second meet up between the teams this season.

Last week’s road trip to Austin was a tough one as the Runners fell to the Power 15-9. Even though the Runners lost the match, they still managed to rack up 9 goals with highlights from the likes of Forward Jaime Rodriguez, Midfielder Luis Fernando Martinez as well as local Cleveland High School standout Gabe Legendre.

The Runners remain optimistic against the Rumble in Saturday’s match up as Colorado has struggled to get a win this season.

Last meet up between the Runners and the Rumble was back on December 14th, 2019 where New Mexico put on a clinic that was one for the record books for several players and defeated Colorado 11-5.

Saturday’s matchup will be chippy between both teams as New Mexico will play aggressive to get back into the win column while the Rumble will be clawing their way to find a route to get their first win.

Leading the Way: It has been 5 consecutive weeks that New Mexico has players on top of the league leader board. Rodriguez maintains the pole position in total points with 19 (11 goals, 8 assists), while Martinez holds the top spot in the goal department with 12. Expect the midfield to set things up to score fast.

Undefeated at Home: The Runners are 2-0 at home and look to make it 3 in Saturday’s game. Statistically speaking, if New Mexico scores 10 or more goals in the game they win. This has held true even in last season’s statistics.

Defend the Castle: New Mexico has the ability to create the perfect positioning on the turf which can disrupt their opponents. If the defenders like Pat Pacheco and Mario Matute properly position themselves to assist Goalkeeper Casey Gasson with shot defense, the Runners offense will be left open to set and quickly score.

Saturday night’s promotion is $2 beer night brought to you by the Santa Ana Star Center. Must be 21 years and older and promotion will run from when doors open at 4 PM until 6 PM.
