Famiglietta Nominated for 2nd Time to NM Sports Hall of Fame

Rio Rancho, N.M. (September 5, 2019) – For the 2nd year in a row, New Mexico Runners Head Coach Steve Famiglietta has been nominated for the New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame.

Famiglietta has a resume that bolsters soccer experience which landed him in the USL Soccer Hall of fame in 2006 as a President's Selection. 

His experience includes playing professionally in the SISL and USISL for the Colorado Comets, the Albuquerque Gunners, the Amarillo Challengers and the NM Chiles which were all teams in the USL. Steve was two-time USL Defensive Player of the Year, and a three time US All-Star even touring the former Soviet Union as part of the USL All Star Team.

The Cibola High School graduate and Cibola Sports Hall of Famer, was born in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Rio Rancho at 10 years old. Famiglietta was a High School All American and played for UNM where he was offered a pro contract in Europe. 

Making a positive impact in the community is number one on Famiglietta's priority list. He works with community soccer organizations including Rio Rapids Soccer Club where he coaches several youth teams.

"I've always been dedicated to my community to grow the sport of soccer and develop our athletes to play at the highest level possible." Says Coach Famiglietta. "It's an absolute honor to be nominated for the Sports Hall of Fame."

His dedication has been noticed time and time again as he has been nominated as a candidate to the New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame for the 2nd time.

The New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame has a mission to induct an individual who has had a significant athletic career, achieving high standards of athletic success with accomplishments on a national and worldwide basis bestowing fame and honor to the State of New Mexico.

The New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame has been around for 47 years and for the sixth time the public can take part in the nomination process. The public can vote for their favorite candidate on the New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame website as well as their Facebook page by “Liking” the photo. Folks can only vote for one candidate on the website and multiple candidates on the New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame Facebook page.

The person who receives the highest number of public votes is NOT automatically inducted into the NMSHOF. However, the nominee with the most public votes will be included into the final pool of 15-to-20 candidates, who then remain eligible for the 2019 induction class.

Public voting is Sept. 1-30, 2019. You can vote twice for your favorite candidate(s) -- but only once on our website at www.nmshof.com and for as many candidates only on the NMHOF Facebook page.
